Environmental, Social and Governance

Our approach to sustainability

Striving for sustainability is embedded in our business. We are continuously implementing more sustainable practices across our operations and we remain committed to drive down our emissions, optimise our processes and minimise our overall footprint. Sustainability is at the core of our strategy. We implement sustainability measures in all aspects of our operations, and we categorise our sustainability efforts within Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG).

Resource use and circularity

Our business model is rooted in advancing the circular economy. We apply circular principles across our operations by recovering and recycling waste materials and converting them into secondary resources that are reintroduced across multiple sectors. To support a high standard of circularity at Blue Phoenix, we prioritise maximising resource recovery through the creation of valorised applications by assessing the quality of incoming material, and minimising our waste disposal. In 2025, we processed more than 9.3 million tonnes of IBA, metals, soil and C&D waste, and tar-containing asphalt, preventing significant GHG emissions and supporting the decarbonisation of the construction and manufacturing sectors.

Climate change
(GHG emissions and future initiatives)

Tackling climate change is an important priority of Blue Phoenix. Our business contributes to climate mitigation by recovering resources from waste, reducing the need for virgin materials and the associated energy and emissions. We are actively reducing our operational footprint, by replacing 92% of fossil-based diesel across our UK sites with certified biofuels, consuming low-carbon electricity from the grid used from our EfW suppliers, and monitoring and controlling dust generation on our sites. We continuously invest in renewable energy, efficient machinery and biofuels, with the ambition to improve our carbon footprint by reducing our GHG emissions overtime.

Water and Biodiversity

Water is a critical resource across our operations, particularly at sites where we process IBA, metals and soil through wet processing activities. Recognising water as a scarce and increasingly pressured resource, we apply circular principles to keep water in use for as long as possible. Our solutions include wastewater treatment and water catchment processes, minimising environmental impacts and freshwater demand.

We have also gained initial insights into the biodiversity and ecosystem impacts associated with our value chain through our LCA projects. Building on this foundation, we are strengthening our approach to better understand and manage how our operations interact with the natural environment,
supporting improved protection of ecosystems alongside continued operational improvements.

Social sustainability

People are at the heart of Blue Phoenix. In 2025, our strong focus on Health & Safety, continuous Toolbox training, and the work of our Wellbeing Committee further strengthened our safety culture across all sites. Training expansion through the Global Policies Manual, wellbeing surveys, and local initiatives ensure that our employees feel safe, supported, and heard.

With our continued commitment to health and safety, we look to further strengthen our existing processes while embedding a consistent safety culture across our operations. This includes enhancing leadership and oversight, supporting proactive risk management and continuous improvement. We also look to advance employee wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, and aim to strengthen working relationships across our value chain alongside our operations, including partners, suppliers and customers.

Governance Sustainability

At Blue Phoenix, strong governance is a fundamental part of our sustainability approach. Our governance ensures that our mission is transparent, accountable, and future-oriented. We are committed to ensuring that our business is conducted responsibly, ethically, and in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Our operations are guided by clear internal policies, including anti-bribery and corruption standards, whistleblowing procedures, data protection requirements, IT security protocols, global sanction compliance, and our Code of Conduct.

These frameworks support transparency, integrity, and accountability across all levels of the organisation, ensuring that we maintain the trust of our stakeholders while operating in a safe, secure, and responsible manner.
