Environmental product performance

Transparent by Design: LCA and EPDs

At Blue Phoenix, product sustainability is more than a promise — it’s proof. Through Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), we provide verified, transparent data about the environmental performance of our secondary raw materials. Our goal is to give our customers the confidence that choosing our materials is both safe and sustainable Our IBAA (incinerator bottom ash aggregates) in the UK and Recycled Aggregates in Denmark are compliant with the appropriate National Standards for reuse and have verified EPD’s in place.

Construction materials

Why environmental proof matters?

In construction, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are no longer a “nice to have” – they are becoming a market requirement. Regulations are tightening worldwide: in Europe, EN 15804+A2 is the reference; in North America, ISO 21930 is adopted with state-level mandates; the Nordics go even further by embedding EPDs directly into building codes; and Asia-Pacific markets are moving the same way, though unevenly.
This fragmentation makes compliance complex, but unavoidable. A verified EPD, based on LCA, is now the minimum standard to operate in the market. By publishing EPDs for our recycled materials, we ensure that customers can transparently compare our products with virgin alternatives, reduce their carbon footprint, and meet the regulations that are reshaping the construction sector.

Product sustainability in practice

Blue Phoenix has completed a comprehensive LCA and produced EPDs for our operations. We make our EPDs and supporting documents available so that our customers can easily integrate them into their planning. With the publication of EPDs for IBAA in the UK and our recycled aggregates in Denmark, we provide curated information on product performance linked with policy and regulative compliance. We want to communicate the responsible use of our products in the countries where we operate.

Our commitment to continuous improvement

As we expand, more of our product portfolio will be supported with regional EPDs. We are constantly updating our products and manufacturing processes to reduce embodied carbon. Following the completion of the IBAA LCA and recycled aggregates, we plan a new assessment for the various products manufactured at our metal recovery facilities.
Our objective is to establish a robust system for quantifying the environmental impact of both metals and the mineral fraction from metal recovery by the end of 2025. We invest in advanced laboratories, ongoing product testing, and independent verification to ensure the integrity of our sustainability data. As regulations evolve and expectations rise, so does our commitment to keep product sustainability at the center of what we deliver. We aim to invest more in improving product sustainability, making our products more competitive in the market.
