Metal recovery solutions

Recovery of ferrous and non-ferrous metals

Every tonne of incinerator bottom ash holds untapped potential. Through advanced separation techniques, we extract ferrous and non-ferrous metals with precision—transforming waste into valuable raw materials. Our process not only maximizes metal recovery rates but also supports a cleaner, more circular economy.

How is metal recycled back into raw materials

Consumption & Municipal Solid Waste

It starts with the household and commercial waste collection and transportation to Material recovery facility (MERF). Recyclable materials are separated at the MERF, while the non-recyclable fraction is sent to an EfW plant.

Energy Recovery and IBA production

At the EfW facility, waste is combusted in a solid waste incinerator, generating electricity and heat. A quarter of the initial mass is transformed into incinerator bottom ash (IBA). The bottom ash from waste incineration is collected for processing.

IBA treatment

IBA's processing facilities process the ash, recover metals, and screen and grade aggregates by particle size to meet building standards.

Metal recovery at Blue Phoenix

Extracted metals are sent to our metal refineries to produce a high quality metal product that sent to smelters for reuse in a range of different applications in the automotive industry electronics, copper wiring in electrics etc.

Recovered metals are circled back into the economy

Metals that end up in MSW are diverted from landfill and recovered to a high quality that can be circled back into the economy. This reduces the demand for the mining of primary metals, preventing environmental impacts from resource extraction, production and transport.

Recycled materials: Ferrous and non-ferrous metals

Our recovery metals are suitable for the different needs of industry. Whether the application is construction, automotive, or electronics, ferrous and non-ferrous metals extracted from incinerator bottom ash represent a reliable, high-quality substitute for virgin materials.

Why choose Blue Phoenix?

Ferrous and non-ferrous metals can be used for a wide range of industrial applications without loss in strength or durability.

We use refining techniques to recover close to 100% metals and metals value.

Recycled metals conform to rigorous industry specifications and can therefore be relied on to perform.

Environmental benefits of recycling metals

Using recycled metals enables industry to lessen its impact on the environment and create a sustainable future.

Reduced CO₂ Emissions: Recycled metals use much less energy than mined or virgin metals at production.
Conserve Resources: Recycling conserves the need to extract raw materials, thereby preserving natural habitat.
Circular economy: By keeping valuable resources in use we keep them out of landfills for sustainable use.
Less Waste: Recycling lowers the amount of ash from incineration that ends up in landfill.
