Head of Reliability and Maintenance

The Head of Reliability and Maintenance ensures operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability of IBA (Incinerator Bottom Ash) processing facilities across Europe.

This role drives asset reliability, optimizes maintenance practices, and embeds a culture of continuous improvement. The successful candidate will reduce downtime, extend asset life, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards, directly impacting profitability and reputation. This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer. This role requires frequent travel to various operational sites across Europe, including the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and the UK, with the head office based in Rotterdam. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a reliability and maintenance strategy aligned with business goals.
  • Lead and mentor site-based maintenance teams across multiple facilities.
  • Drive predictive and preventive maintenance adoption using CMMS and condition monitoring tools.
  • Standardise maintenance procedures and KPIs across sites for consistency and performance tracking.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and HSE teams to ensure asset integrity and compliance.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, contracts, and service providers for cost efficiency.
  • Lead root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce failures and downtime.
  • Support capital investment planning with lifecycle cost analysis and reliability input.
  • Ensure inventory optimisation for spare parts and critical components.
  • Promote energy efficiency and sustainability in equipment operation.

Job Requirements 

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 10+ years in maintenance/reliability leadership roles, preferably in heavy industry or waste/recycling sectors.
  • Proven experience with RCM, TPM, and CMMS systems.
  • Strong understanding of asset management and condition monitoring technologies.
  • Multi-site team management experience in a matrix organisation.
  • Fluent in English; additional European languages are a plus.
  • Willingness to travel across EU sites.
