Reborn Aggregates from Blue Phoenix aim to preserve natural resources in the UK

8 October 2026

Blue Phoenix in the UK is rebranding its outbound product portfolio. This comes as part of a global push for product consistency and market differentiation. For more than 30 years, Blue Phoenix has produced IBA (Incinerator Botton Ash) aggregates or IBAA actively used in construction and infrastructure projects throughout the country. Now, they are named Reborn Aggregates.

Managing Director for Blue Phoenix UK, Simon Marriot explains:
“We are proud of the quality IBA aggregates we produce here in the UK. Blue Phoenix as a company has grown to become a national supplier of aggregates to the construction sector. With increasing uncertainty related to resource supply both in this country and internationally, we have an important role to play in supplying secondary aggregates made right here in the UK. To help further boost the use of IBAA, Reborn reminds our customers of the circular nature of Blue Phoenix aggregates. Every tonne of Reborn Aggregates used means fewer primary aggregates taken from quarries or the seabed.”

The 10 stationary Blue Phoenix IBA processing sites in the UK produced more than 1 million tonnes of IBAA during last year (2025), replacing approximately 1,6 million tonnes of primary aggregates. Blue Phoenix UK intends to further increase the supply of Reborn Aggregates in the years to come to help meet the growing demand for quality secondary aggregates in domestic construction and infrastructure projects.

From the fire they came

The journey of Reborn Aggregates starts at one of the UK’s many Energy-from Waste (EfW) facilities. Apart from ferrous and non-ferrous metals, Blue Phoenix extracts from the IBA at our facilities, a mineral fraction is also recovered during IBA processing. Reborn Aggregates from IBA are then certified and quality-tested to ensure they meet the high application and environmental standards in the construction sector and set out by authorities.

Years of processing experience, patented technology and innovation have transformed an otherwise inconsistent inbound material into quality aggregates that carry many of our roads. But the journey towards improved IBA-based aggregates continues, says Simon Marriot:

“Reborn serves as a stamp of approval. We have supplied secondary aggregates to more than 700 new road construction and infrastructure projects in the UK, on a yearly basis. But we continue to look into new areas of technology to make IBAA even cleaner and more quality consistent. Biotechnology and AI are promising tools to help us achieve those goals. We became the first aggregate supplier in the UK to offer our aggregates in the digital merchant platform for materials, MukAway. I want quality, reliability, availability and importantly affordability to form the basis of Reborn Aggregates here in the UK.”

Reborn Aggregates are available for purchase at Blue Phoenix’s 10 IBA processing sites in the UK as well as through the MukAway application.
