Returning C&D waste resources into the economy
At the end of the 1970s, the Dutch government decided that concrete and brickwork debris (mineral construction and demolition waste streams) should no longer be dumped. This was the starting point for recycling these waste streams into reusable products. Blue Phoenix has all the equipment necessary to process these waste streams and produce high-quality granulates for road construction on a large scale.
In line with the Dutch government policy, which is aimed at recycling as much construction and demolition waste as possible, Blue Phoenix has invested in the largest and most innovative Hazemag crusher in Europe at Vondelingenplaat in the Netherlands.
With a capacity of approximately 1,000 tonnes per hour, we can crush large flows of mineral waste. The crushed material is then stripped of iron and organic residual fractions and sieved into the grain size of 0/16, 0/31.5, and 16/31.5. This enables us to produce top-grade certified raw materials that find their way to the road building, asphalt and ready-mix concrete industries.
Our intake policy is fully in line with our guiding principle which states that we only accept mineral flows that we can recycle for a 100%. The depletion of raw minerals and the degradation of the landscape reinforce Blue Phoenix efforts to recycle C&D waste optimally and to use it as a secondary building material and raw material.
Our worldwide thermal treatment operations
We operate one of Europe's most advanced thermal treatment networks, with large-scale facilities capable of handling significant volumes of asphalt and roofing waste. Our thermal treatment facility in the Netherlands is the central location of our European asphalt and roofing waste operations. From countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Italy, UK, Austria, Belgium, and Ireland, materials are transported to this state-of-the-art location, where they are processed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with environmental standards. We support our partners across the region with reliable capacity and consistent quality.
Secondary materials: Recycled aggregates from the process
During collection, the mono flow of concrete waste is separated so that we are able to produce high-quality certified concrete granulate that can be used as a foundation layer in specific heavily loaded road construction works where the strength of the road and/or the terrain requires it (e.g. container terminals).
