Urbase®
Urbase® aggregates are a sustainable and safe solution produced from incinerator bottom ash (IBA), using Blue Phoenix Dynamic IBA washing solution that ensures that the recovered and washed aggregates meet the highest quality standards.
Urbase® is regularly and routinely tested to ensure it meets the necessary requirements outlined in CROW RAW Standaard Bepalingen Grond- en Wegenbouw and relevant European standards (EN 13242, EN 13043 and EN 12620).
Urbase® specifications
Urbase® is a lightweight and highly compactable material that has been approved by the Dutch Rijkswaterstaat and complies with BRL 2307-1 for civil and environmental properties. It has also received the qualification of NV Buildingmaterial (NV-Bouwstof).
Urbase® 0-20mm, a washed aggregate, possesses excellent physical, chemical, and durability characteristics for unbound applications as a substitute for primary sand in construction projects such as road construction.
Environmental specifications
Urbase® secondary aggregates are provided in conformance with local regulations and undergo a comprehensive environmental assessment to ensure safe and responsible application. These assessments consider several factors, such as site geology and proximity to water.
As a general rule, a distinction must be made between installation inside and outside water protection areas, and a sufficient distance to the groundwater must be ensured.
Applications
Blue Phoenix produces high-quality aggregates characterized by optimal particle shape, exceptional durability, and strong resistance to weathering. These materials are engineered for a wide range of civil engineering applications, including asphalt and foundation construction.
Urbase® has been successfully utilized as a sustainable alternative to primary sand in large-scale infrastructure projects such as Highways A9 and A1. Its reliable performance and cost-efficiency make it an ideal choice for use as embankment sand, backfill material and drainage sand.
