A smarter alternative to landfill

Residual waste in Australia has traditionally ended up in landfill— a costly, unsustainable path with limited space and significant environmental impact. Waste-to-energy provides a better alternative by converting non-recyclable waste into reliable energy while reducing landfill dependency. When waste-to-energy produces heat and energy, it also leaves behind a by-product called Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA). Instead of landfilling this material, Blue Phoenix gives it a second life. 

Closing the loop with proven IBA recycling

As the operator of Australia’s first IBA processing facility, we work alongside waste-to-energy partners such as Acciona to recover metals and transform the mineral fraction into high-quality secondary aggregates. This process closes the loop: nothing goes to waste, and everything is put back into use. This way, we are increasing material recovery instead of disposal, reducing reliance on virgin quarry products, and delivering safe, non-hazardous, cost-effective, and carbon-effective materials for infrastructure.
